Drie teams van (voormalige) studenten van de minor "Creative Strategies for a Society in Change" van de Academie voor Creatieve en Podiumkunsten (ACPA) van de Universiteit Leiden pakken in hun Short Essay Films zeer uiteenlopende maatschappelijke vraagstukken aan.
De minor is een diepgaande verkenning van de verbinding tussen creatieve processen en maatschappelijke vraagstukken. Met behulp van visuele kunst disciplines zoals film en design duiken de cursussen in onderwerpen als migratie, klimaatverandering, ras, gender en andere actuele maatschappelijke kwesties. Studenten krijgen een unieke kans om met deze vraagstukken om te gaan via twee verschillende benaderingen: essayistische films en maatschappelijk activisme via kunst.

"Lost in Discourse" spreekt het universele gevoel van verlies aan aan de hand van de persoonlijke ervaringen van de vier auteurs, regisseurs en editors. Deze korte film is een getuigenis, een reflectieproces en een gedeelde verkenning van een veelzijdig aspect van het leven. Het creatieve proces weerspiegelt hoe gevoelens die doorgaans zo intiem zijn, universeel geïnterpreteerd kunnen worden, aangezien het doel van deze film is om de kijker uit te nodigen hun eigen private gedachten te overdenken via die van anderen.
De filmvertoning Short Essay Films richt zich op essayistische films, een filmische vorm die zich ergens tussen documentaire en fictie bevindt en een subjectieve en reflectieve benadering hanteert bij het verkennen van thema's, onderwerpen en gedachten.
Na de filmvertoning vindt er een boeiende Q&A-sessie plaats met twee van de studentenfilmmakers van "Lost in Discourse", waardoor het publiek inzicht krijgt in de creatieve processen, uitdagingen en inspiraties achter de totstandkoming van de film.
Three teams of (former) students from the minor "Creative Strategies for a Society in Change" at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA) at Leiden University tackle vastly different societal issues in their Short Essay Films.
The minor is a profound exploration of the connection between creative processes and societal issues. Through visual art disciplines such as film and design, the courses delve into subjects like migration, climate change, race, gender, and other prevalent societal matters. Students are given a unique opportunity to engage with these issues through two distinct avenues: essayistic films and societal activism through art.

Lost in Discourse addresses the universal feeling of loss through the personal experiences of its four author, director, and editors. This short is a testimony, a reflection process, and a shared exploration of a multifaceted part of life. The creation process reflects how sentiments that are usually so intimate can be universally interpreted, as the goal of this film is to invite its viewer to contemplate their own private thoughts through the ones of others.
The Short Essay Films screening focuses on essayistic films, a cinematic form that lies somewhere between documentary and fiction, employing a subjective and reflective approach to exploring themes, subjects, and thoughts.
Following the film screening, an engaging Q&A session will take place with two of the student filmmakers from "Lost in Discourse," providing an opportunity for the audience to gain insights into the creative processes, challenges, and inspirations behind the creation of the film.
