Parallel Strata is bedacht en ontworpen door Nicky Assmann en Joris Strijbos, twee Rotterdamse kunstenaars wiens werk voortkomt uit een interesse in natuur, wetenschap en technologie. Hun gezamenlijke werken zijn het resultaat van een empirisch en doorlopend onderzoek op het gebied van kinetische kunst, licht en perceptie.
Zo ook Parallel Strata; een compositie voor meerdere kinetische lichtsculpturen, gebaseerd op het concept van kinetisch stroboscopisch licht en schaduwspel, verbonden met de beweging van de kijker.
Het schaduwspel komt voort uit de roterende lichten en het stroboscopische effect dat een parallelle laag onthult. Het combineren van deze technieken in een ruimtelijke compositie resulteert in mechanisch bewegende lichtwezens waar het publiek doorheen kan dwalen.
Parallel Strata was conceived and designed by Nicky Assmann and Joris Strijbos, two artists from Rotterdam whose work emerges from an interest in nature, science, and technology. Their collaborative creations are the outcome of empirical and ongoing research in the realm of kinetic art, light, and perception.
Likewise, Parallel Strata is a composition featuring multiple kinetic light sculptures, based on the concept of kinetic stroboscopic light and shadow play, intertwined with the viewer's movement.
The shadow play arises from the rotating lights and the stroboscopic effect, which unveils a parallel layer. Combining these techniques in a spatial composition results in mechanically moving light entities through which the audience can wander.
