SMELL - Sofia Collette Ehrich

Traditionally, the way we approach the world is often with our eyes first. Why do we have such an innate bias towards our senses besides vision? Encouraging a multisensory approach can reach a broader audience, provide new pathways to knowledge, enrich the stories we tell and heighten our attention and memory. This lecture aims to educate and inform anyone and everyone about the benefits of engaging all our senses in our professional careers as well as our everyday life. I will speak specifically about olfaction, or our sense of smell, and how I have used it as a way of storytelling in museums and beyond.

Participants of this lecture will leave being able to apply what they have learned about their senses to their everyday life and share these learnings with their friends and family. The lecture includes multisensory engagement, specifically a historical smell session where we will learn about a piece of history through our sense of smell. This lecture is fun and accessible for all ages.
