For a long time it was thought that there must be something wrong with violent extremists and terrorists. Because who uses public violence or even commits a suicide bombing to achieve political goals? That picture is now background: there is consensus among scientists that psychopathology does not provide a good general explanation of radicalization. But what motivates radicalized people? And maybe they look like you and me? Does the potential for radicalization exist in all of us and if so, what can we do to counter it?
